I feel fantastic. This is one of the busiest times of my year. Its summer! I have 3 week long camps in 5 weeks. It’s exhausting. Don’t get me wrong its not all bad, but it is tiring. But even in despite of all that I feel refreshed and renewed. Earlier today I was trying to figure out why. I was trying to figure out what was different. And it hit me.

Over the last month me and my Pastor having been taking time away from the office to go and dream about the future of oneChurch.tv. We have literally spent hours processing through some of our dreams and hopes for the years to come. It has been a blast. It has been as refreshing as going to a conference or something of that nature.

Something occurred to me. I have gotten soo wrapped up in working. I have gotten so wrapped up on what is next that I forgot to take time and dream about what God wants to do.

This is been a great reminder of the importance of taking a break and dreaming big dreams.

When I don’t dream . . .
I get wrapped up in things that I shouldn’t
I forget my call
I stay tense
I get upset about things that don’t matter
My mind wanders toward a challenge and away from my mission
I become a little small minded
I lean towards ministry silos
I forget to shepherd
I get complacent

When I do dream . . .
I have more organizational clarity
I feel more relaxed
I fight for the things that do matter
The mission stays clear in my mind
I remember to think big picture
I focus more on whats good for the long term of the organization
I stay focused on people and leading my team
I push myself and my team

Remembering to dream and think about the future is one of the healthiest things we as church leaders can do. A step I am going to take away from this process is making a regular and consistent time to dream and think about the future. And I am going to do it with my team. Remembering that we have big goals is the fuel for leaders. Is it the light at the end of the tunnel during rough times and it what will lead us to push ourselves even when we don't think we can.
