Jonathan Cliff (for more on him go HERE) did a fantastic job on my second breakout of the day! He talked a lot about staff relationships and how to cultivate an environment of health amongst your staff! Jonathan recently took on a new role at his church as the Next Gen Pastor! Over the last year he has had to flesh this out in real life. Which made this breakout incredibly useful to me.

Here are my notes!

Define the Three Main Categories of Staff Relationships:
Those we lead
Those we cooperate with us
Those we Follow

4 Principals for Navigating Staff Relationships

Define the Culture and Atmosphere for where you work - Before you can work on it you need to clearly define what it is and what it looks like! Take the time to decide what kind of atmosphere you want to create and make decisions based on that.

Move in the Direction you want to go – What is it going to take for things to flourish! You as a leader set the tone! Make a plan and then move in the direction you want to go!

Practice Accountability – Are you doing what you have defined? How do you take intentional time to evaluate if you are doing what you have defined? If you are a leader and you have to set the tone then what is you system and process for holding yourself accountability!

Assume the Best – If you want to cultivate a culture of trust then you have to practice it. Every person is allowed to have a bad day. Be more concerned with the overall character of a person than you are with one encounter when you don’t know what someone is going through. If you choose to assume the best even when you don’t want to it will help cultivate a environment that breeds trust.
