No More Volun-Tears
This Breakout was with Craig Jutila (for more on him read here) he did a phenomenal job of really diagnosing the problem and walking us through some solutions on how to handle the volunteer issues that we all have to process through. The bottom line is that most volunteer issues are a product of leadership and expectations. Here are some of the key points.
Time; I don’t have enough time to lead volunteers

Energy; I’m to tire to lead volunteers
Apathy; Working with Volunteers isn’t my passion.
Risk; If I make change people won’t like me.
Stuck; I don’t know how to lead volunteers
2 Steps to stop volun-tears
Stop doing everything – if you want to get new leaders then you have to keep the ones you have. When there is disunity among the people you do have that will not be appealing to leaders who have the skills to be change agents on your team. If you want to grow your volunteer base then you have to be start with volunteers so that you can add the things that you vision calls for.
Create a Volunteer Virus – “Through meaningful service experiences, individuals take a greater responsibility in the outcomes of the organization’s work and thus become even more involved as a spokesperson in the community. This idea of “volunteer” evangelists or ambassadors can be a powerful mechanism for maximizing an organization’s impact.
It’s About “Their” Experience and Others “Perception”
