I recently took a break from blogging and scaled way down on twitter and Facebook. There where a lot of reasons. I was tremendously busy. In the family ministry world fall kick off is huge. I felt like if I had anything else in my brain I might actually die, but the main reason was that I just needed to take a break and read, reflect, and refresh. Sometimes I get so wrapped up into what my next blog topic will be that I forget to take time to read and renew my mind. Sad I know.

Something that was really stirred in me through this time is if I want to be able to affectively pour out I have to take the time to be poured into. Leadership can be a lonely place and if we aren’t intentional about taking time to rest and get refreshed and continually learning. As basic as this seems it always manages to be something we all forget at times. We cannot pour out what is not already there. It’s like holding a cup upside down trying to get the very last drop out. We are wasting more energy trying to get that one drop out than we would just taking a step back and getting poured in to. Doesn’t it seem like it would be easier to be more intentional about finding the right things to fill us up rather than stand there shaking until the very last drop falls out. We should always be learning and taking time for ourselves. We are no good as leaders when we are on Empty. Your team no doubt needs you to lead them and process through what is coming with them. Your effectiveness will ultimately be limited if you aren’t intentional about creating those times for yourself. In every organization we have to step back and get some fresh perspective.

Change of place x change of pace = FRESH PERSPECTIVE

What do you do in your Dry times??
